OBJECTIVES: This unit aims to provide students with opportunities to develop:

1.    Knowledge of timber as a construction material in details.

2.    Knowledge of timber properties, defects and treatments.

3.    Knowledge of timber construction technology and applications.

4.    Application of timber technology in building design

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

 

At the end of the course the student will have:

  1. To apply the properties of the timber as construction material (C3).
  2. To utilize the technology of timber construction (C3).
  3. To analyze timber construction applications (C4).
TRANSFERABLE SKILLS:
  • Will be able to understand and aware in timber construction technology used in the industry.
  • Will develop knowledge in the properties and detailing of the timber as material in construction industry.

  • The course will be taught through a combination of lectures, assignments, group work and site visits.
SYNOPSIS:

 

This course introduces wood as a building construction material and wood technology applications in the industries. Students will be exposed in details to wood properties and its application in building construction. Treatments and defects of wood; joinery in wood constructions; basic principle of wood structure design; wood as finishes and detailing in wood construction are the main topics inclusive in this course.
