9. OBJECTIVES 1.     To provide exposure on the corporate governance mechanisms and regulatory framework in the Malaysian context.

2.     To highlight the current corporate governance issues in theory and practice.

3.     To provide exposure on the application of professional knowledge and skills to resolve practical issues and problems in ensuring proper governance of organization within the context of Malaysian corporate governance and regulatory framework.

10. LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

1.     Verbally summarise the corporate governance mechanisms and framework in the Malaysian context. (LO2-CS3, P1)

2.     Relate the current corporate governance issues found in empirical studies with the components in the Malaysian corporate governance code. (LO6-EM2, A3)

3.     Discuss the importance of having ethical values and professional knowledge in the corporate governance framework. (LO9-LS2, P2; LO6-EM2, A1)

11. TRANSFERABLE SKILLS Student should be able to understand the pillars of corporate governance and apply this knowledge when facing dilemmas in ensuring transparent and good governance practice in the workplace.
12. TEACHING-LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT STRATEGY Teaching-learning strategy:

  • The course will be taught through a combination of formal lectures, exercise, group work, using authentic materials, informal activities and various textbooks. Collaborative teamwork will be fosters throughout the course. The use of examination and internal reporting assessment will assess the student’s ability to apply theoretical concept in context.

13. SYNOPSIS Transparency in management has become a vital principle in corporate administration. This course is intended to enhance student’s knowledge towards the principles applied in corporate governance and administration that is aligned with the requirement of muamalat, law and rules introduced by the regulatory bodies (i.e. Bursa Malaysia, Securities Commission, Companies Commission of Malaysia).
