RATIONALE FOR THE INCLUSION OF THE COURSE/MODULE IN THE PROGRAMME This course is developed for final year students as an exposure to the practice of counseling in a workplace setting.  This course provides a platform on how to develop counseling services in workplace setting and students will be exposed to the development of an employee assistance program treatment planner and site visits to a few workplace counseling providers.

9. OBJECTIVES
  1. To apply the basic attending skills and conduct counseling session in a working environment;
  2. To apply theories and skills of conducting an effective counseling session in workplace; and
  3. To identify and differentiate various types of workplace counseling settings.
10. LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Choose the appropriate models and setup of workplace counseling to apply in their own practice  (LO8-CTPS 3).
  2. Prepare an Employee Assistance Program Treatment Planner according to specific issues in workplace counseling (LO7 – LL3).
  3. Discuss and debate on ethical and professional issues in workplace counseling (LO9-CTPS3,EM3)

13. SYNOPSIS This course discusses the needs and importance of counseling in the workplace. It will focus on personal counseling, group counseling, models and setting up workplace counseling and design an Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) Treatment Plan. Ethical issues in workplace counseling will also be discussed.
