4. RATIONALE FOR THE INCLUSION OF THE COURSE/MODULE IN THE PROGRAMME This course is developed as an exposure to students in understanding the career counseling theories and models. Students will be able to explore the current career issues in the country and try to find appropriate approaches to manage the issues in counseling. The critical reflective journal and report of interview at work setting and with the group project to learn how to learn through experience. As the students go through the experience to manage group project it will also provide opportunities to practice teamwork and problem solving. Cooperative and collaborative management in group project that build confidence in becoming trained counselor.

9. OBJECTIVES
  1. To provide students with the ability to understand career counseling theories and model
  2. To identify issues of career counseling approaches
  3. To enhance career management skills through experience
10. LEARNING OUTCOMES At the end of the course, students will be able to:

  1. Practice career counseling model  in counseling session (LO2-C3)
  2. Analyze the issues of career counseling in  family systems (LO4-CS 4)
  3. Manage entrepreneurial skills in organizing  career counseling project  (LO8- ES8)
11. TRANSFERABLE SKILLS Student should be able to develop a good understanding of the current counseling theories and model in developed  society and to use  the model in handling the career counseling program
12. TEACHING-LEARNING AND ASSESSMENT STRATEGY Teaching-learning strategy:

  • The course will be taught through a combination of formal lectures, exercise, group work project, presentation of case studies and individual assignment throughout continuous critical reflective journal in learning outcome portfolio (LOP).  Cooperative and Collaborative teamwork will be fostered throughout the course especially through group work project. The use of examination and essay assignment will assess the student’s ability to apply theoretical concept in real context.

13. SYNOPSIS The course will discuss the theory of career development and model of career counseling.  Students wil be able to apply the theory and skills to carry out career counseling session using the career counseling model.  The current issues of career counseling in developed countries face by counselor at work will also be discussed.  The group project of career counseling management for student to experience cooperative and colaborative teamwork.
